Third Grade Connects art to ScienceScientific illustration was an important part of scientific communication and recording of data prior to the advent of photography. John James Audubon was an American scientist, artist and naturalist known for his studies, and artworks of North American birds. Students carefully observed Audubon’s prints (analyzing the composition, shapes, textures and values of what they saw). After picking a work of Audubon’s to draw, they moved their ideas from the two dimensional realm of problem solving to creating three dimensional forms their bird. Fantastic job third grade!
