"Just Because", Self Portrait Boxes Sixth and seventh grade artists explored printmaking. Energized by the the spoken word poem, “I am NOT black, you are NOT white”, by Prince Ea and an exploration of stereotypes, upper school students created these pieces during their Art and Design course. These artworks explore the complexities of stereotypes and their own identities. All students created a list of “Just Because…” statements that they feel relate to stereotypes and labels that impact them personally. Students then created lino cuts of themselves which they printed onto semi-transparent paper. Images behind the portraits, reflect ideas about their inner selves. Fantastic job printmaking!
